Trap is about to come alive!

Trap is about to come alive!

07.24.2025

Vanessa Cook is giving a workshop to research her next dance theatre piece, Trap. In collaboration with writer Tom Derrington, Luzius Engel (dramaturge) and Emily Maggorian (outside eye), Trap will be performed by 3 actors and 3 dancers. Trap begins with the last day of school of an ambitious young musician. Her journey intersects with a disillusioned middle-aged teacher and a pensioner suffering from dementia. Each character has a unique and contrasting connection to their ikigai (raison d'être). Each character in Trap is performed by an actor and a dancer. Trap combines two narrative levels - one driven by the words and actions of the actors, and the other expressed by the dancers, who embody the inner worlds of the actors.

The workshop is on 8th August 2025 (13.00-16.00, Akar Studio, Maulbeerstrasse 8, Bern). It is open to anyone that can identify with one of the following categories and is interested in trying out some ideas with the piece’s text and movement:

1) Male dancer, 25-35 years old with a strong sense of theatricality.

2) Female dancer, around 20 years old, a strong sense of theatricality and competency in urban dance.

3) Male actor, 30+ with a strong physicality.

4) Female actor, able to play a 16-18 year old with strong physicality.

5) Female actor, able to play a 60+ year old.

Excellent spoken English is essential for all actors (not dancers). Performers from all backgrounds are welcome. If you are interested in coming to the workshop, please send a short email/text naming the category in which you are interested to: [email protected]/ 079 849 0677.
