Two new aerial dance premieres coming SOON!

03.02.2026

In this year's BETA Stage Festival edition, I get to enjoy a good amount of air time. I will perform with Joana Hermes in Lisa Lareida's new aerial dance piece, Orbit. And for the closing festival event, I am choreographing and performing in the aerial piece Mise en Abyme, along with 5 other Bernese performers who are collaborating together for the first time. It is such a pleasure to be back on the rope and in the air.

Last September I had the pleasure of stepping out of the 'director's chair' and back into the harness when I started rehearsing for Lisa Lareida's new aerial dance duet, Orbit. The first few rehearsals are always a joy, to be able to fly, spin and swing freely off the floor. But as always, aerial dance demands a lot of the body. But what made the physical demands enjoyable this time, was having Lisa's suggestions from the outside and Joana's fast understanding of how to work with a rope. There is always a large gap between how moving through space is observed and how it feels proprioceptively. The three of us were often surprised by what we found together. The whole performance is filmed from above and projected live as we dance, offering us and the audience new perceptions. Orbit will be performed in the Grosse Halle on Friday 27 & Sunday 29 March 2026.

Mise en Abyme will be performed on the front wall of the Brückenpfeiler building, as part of the closing celebration of the BETA Stage Festival. We are three dancers on the ropes, three on the ground. It feels like the right wall to dance on, with all its dance studios stacked on top of each other on the other side of the wall. It's also very apt that during the performance we descend over bold signs like 'Dance Passion!' The piece feels bold, passionate and celebratory!

In summer 2026, American university students from BYU will again join me in the Grosse Halle, Bern, to learn aerial dance skills. I will also use that week to research ideas for my next big aerial dance performance which will take place in the Grosse Halle in 2027.
